Recruitment Drive Begins For Premier Inn Hotel
Premier Inn is working closely with the Department for Employment and Learning (DEL) as part of its latest recruitment drive for 60 jobs for its newest hotel in Londonderry
The construction of the 60 bedroom hotel, which will also feature a 200 seat Brewers Fayre family pub restaurant, is now under way and the formal opening is expected in December 2012.
The project represents a £6m investment into the local economy. Today Minister for Employment and Learning, Dr Stephen Farry and Premier Inn Cluster General Manager, Cathy Hopkins announced the recruitment campaign.
Minister for Employment and Learning, Dr Stephen Farry said: "The Department is pleased to be assisting Premier Inn in its latest recruitment especially during this difficult economic time. I particularly welcome Premier Inn's decision to facilitate interviews for unemployed individuals and people with disabilities. The opportunity to apply for these jobs is being supported locally by pre-employment training. The contribution that Premier Inn is making to the economy through the creation of further jobs in Northern Ireland is commendable."
Premier Inn Cluster General Manager, Cathy Hopkins said: "We are proud that the new Premier Inn and Brewers Fayre restaurant at Crescent Link will create much-needed employment and sustainable career opportunities in the area. We believe the arrival of Premier Inn to Derry/Londonderry will also help to improve the city's hospitality and tourism offering. Premier Inn has invested heavily in Northern Ireland and we are excited that we will soon open our seventh hotel here. With the city's tourism figures expected to double in 2013, we are delighted to bring a new Premier Inn to Derry/Londonderry just in time for the start of the City of Culture celebrations."

Five Hotels Planned In £50m Expansion
Northern Ireland is set to get five new hotels that will create around 200 jobs. Andras House is to build five new Ibis branded hotels in Northern Ireland, as part of a £50 million investment programme. Chairman of Andras House Lord Diljit Rana announced the major expansion, which will mean around 500 new bedrooms.

Union Accuses Whitbread Of Breaching Its Own Human Rights Policy
Unite has accused hospitality giant Whitbread, owners of Premier Inn and Costa Coffee, of a flagrant breach of its own company human rights policy, and article 11 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) which includes the right to form and join a trade union of your choice.

Consultation On New Employment Programme Launched
Employment and Learning Minister Dr Stephen Farry today launched a public consultation on a proposed new employment programme for Northern Ireland. The new programme, which has been called provisionally Steps 2 Success (NI), will replace the Department’s main adult return to work provision, Steps to Work, which was introduced in September 2008.

Belfast City Council has teamed up with the Hastings Grand Central Hotel Belfast and the Dalata Hotel Group's Maldron Hotel Belfast City, both of which are due to open next year – to launch a new Hotel Employment Academy.
