Belfast To Host Strongest Man Comp
Belfast is to host the World and UK Strongest Man competitions.
The Belfast Ultimate Strongman Giant Weekend will run from August 23 to Monday August 27 in the Odyssey Arena on Queen's Quay, home to the ice hockey team the Belfast Giants.
Nine hours of coverage from the events will be televised around the globe.
Events include the Masters World Strongest Man and Junior UK Strongest Man competitions.
The Belfast crowd will also get the chance to see the Ultimate Truck Pull and Anchor Pull as part of thirty overall tests of strength.
Current Masters World Strongest Man Glenn Ross is from Bangor.
He said: "I had offers from several UK cities all keen to host the competition but as a local man I wanted to bring it to Belfast, not just to support the local economy but to stage a world class family event for the people of Northern Ireland.
"For years we were overlooked as a credible host city for nearly all events and now our wee city is attracting attention from all over the world and I'm proud that the Ultimate Strongman Giant Weekend is part of that.
"We have taken extra steps this year to make the Ultimate weekend the perfect family day out and have included stalls and entertainment to ensure there's something for everyone in the family, no matter what size their muscles are."
Tickets for the event are available on arrival and cost £5 per day.
Children under 12 will get in for free.
