Children Find Firearm In Antrim

A group of children have found a shotgun in Antrim.

The shotgun was discovered in a lane at the back of Fernwood Park on Thursday afternoon at around 3.25pm.

The children informed an adult, who then contacted the police.

PSNI and ATO attended the scene and took the gun away for further examination.

Police are appealing to anyone with information to contact them.

Investigation over teens ‘abandoned’ in Downpatrick
An investigation has been launched into claims that a group of teenagers had been abandoned in the County Down countryside while on a half-term holiday from England. Seven teenagers from County Durham, aged between 12 and 14, were allegedly told to make their own way back to a hostel in Downpatrick, after they were accused of misbehaving.

Christmas ChildLine Calls Double In 2011
Almost 50,000 young people contacted ChildLine over the Christmas holidays while the organisation said counselling sessions on Christmas day had doubled since last year. A total of 48,751 contacts were made by phone, email and online chat during the 12-day period starting on Christmas Eve.

Young Sisters Found Dead In Cork
Gardaí are investigating after two children and their father - all from a Co Cork fishing village - died in separate incidents. The man, who was in his 40s, died when his car crashed into a tree and burst into flames on a road just outside Ballycotton on Tuesday morning.

Source Of Nursery E-coli Outbreak 'Unclear'
The source of an outbreak of the E-coli bug at a Lurgan nursery is still unknown. The Public Health Agency is continuing to investigate the outbreak at Holly House in Dollingstown, which has so far affected twelve toddlers. The PHA confirmed that none of the children has been seriously ill.

Police Continue To Investigate Laptop And Notebook Loss
Police are continuing to investigate the loss of an officer's laptop and notebook. It is believed the material fell from a moving vehicle on the foreshore stretch of the M2 motorway, on Thursday 17th August around 4.15pm. The laptop was immediately deactivated and has since been recovered. No personnel files were involved.
