Elderly couple assaulted and robbed in Newcastle
An elderly couple have been assaulted at their home in Newcastle last night.
One of the couple - a man in his 70's - was returning to his home at Knocksticken Road, Clough, after walking his dog. As he entered his kitchen, four men burst in behind him and forced him to the floor. His wife who was also in the kitchen was told to sit in a chair.
The robbers ransacked the house and escaped with an undisclosed sum of cash.
The couple are said to be badly shaken and the elderly woman has been taken to hospital following the incident which took place at around 9.30pm on Monday.
Police are appealing for information and anyone who may have noticed any suspicious activity in the area is urged to contact Detectives at Downpatrick.
In particular, they would like to hear from the owners of a silver-blue coloured car seen in the area at around 4pm that afternoon.

Police are appealing for information following a burglary in south Belfast on Sunday. Money and jewellery were stolen from an elderly couple's home in Thalia Street while they were staying with friends. The couple returned later that day to discover the break-in.

An elderly couple were subjected to a terrifying ordeal last night when two masked men forced their way into their Bellaghy home. One of the men brandishing a handgun forced his way past the pensioner as he opened the door to his home on the Drenan Road, near Bellaghy, at around 7.30pm.

Elderly couple 'physically and mentally abused' during robbery
Police have appealed for information after armed robbers "physically and mentally abused" an elderly couple in their Aughnacloy home over the weekend. The couple were in their isolated farmhouse in the early hours of Sunday morning when gang of eight men burst in and ransacked their home.

Elderly Couple Scammed Out Of £15,000
An elderly couple have been scammed out of £15,000 by a people posing to be from BT, according to the PSNI. The scammer contacted the couple by phone and said that they needed access to their computer to fix a fault. They talked the victim through a process which allowed them remote access to their computer.
