Safety first for Specsavers Opticians in Portadown
Specsavers Opticians in Portadown have scooped the top prize in Northern Ireland in a competition that involved more than 450 Specsavers stores.
The National Safety Eyewear Competition was launched in 2002 and encouraged stores to generate new Prescription Safety Eyewear business within their area.
Specsavers launched its own brand of safety eyewear in October 1999 and the range is now used by major industries throughout the UK.
Commenting on the award, store director, Eamonn Murray, said: "This award shows our commitment to providing a good service not only to our general customers but also to businesses in the Portadown area."
The range was launched in conjunction with a BS kitemark-registered manufacturer, as Nigel Parker, Specsavers’ Director of Ophthalmic Lens Development, explained: "By setting up a direct relationship with a manufacturer and supplying the glasses direct through our stores, we are greatly simplifying the supply chain. This has resulted in a faster service and clear, simple pricing – and it is supported by the distribution network of more than 450 Specsavers stores nationwide."
Specsavers currently employs nearly 10,000 people and has 491 stores across the UK.

Big Stores 'Tax' Boosts Smaller Ones
A levy on large stores across NI is to go ahead - but at a reduced rate than originally proposed. The 'Tesco tax' as it has been named means that large retailers might then limit investment - and cost job creation opportunities.
