NIACT Telecoms conference success

Over 300 people attended The Northern Ireland advisory Committee for Telecoms (NIACT) 2003 Telecoms Conference held recently in Belfast.

The Netcom Group, which now incorporates Atlas Communications (formerly known as Eircom NI) were co-sponsors of an event that also attracted six guest speakers and 11 stand representing Northern Ireland’s telecoms arena.

Commenting on the success of the show which was held at Belfast's Waterfront Hall, Stephen Kher Managing Director of the Netcom Group said: “The NIACT Annual conference is vital in keep the Northern Ireland business sector abreast of the ever changing telecoms environment. John Thornhill, General Manager, BT Indirect Channels, our guest speaker highlighted the importance of Broadband Internet in today’s business arena.”

The NIACT conference was hosted by Courtenay Thompson DL, Chairman of NIACT and compared by Linda McAuley, of BBC’s Ulster “On Your behalf” programme.

Other speakers at the conference included; Alan Edgar, Manager EMC Test Unit, Queen’s University, Belfast who presented the facts of Mobile health; Dougie Powell, PSNI Computer Crime Unit, talking about Policing the Internet and protection from online crime and Martin Bradley, Axis Three who presented his views on the future of the Internet.

Having recently acquired Eircom NI’s CPE business, the Netcom Group is now the largest independent telecoms supplier, installation and maintenance company within Ireland. The Group has offices in Belfast, Dublin and Glasgow and employs approximately 130 staff.

NIACT is all Oftel’s representative within Northern Ireland. The committee is one of six committees in the UK established under the 1984 Telecommunications Act. NIACT advise the Director general of Oftel on any telecommunications issues that concern Northern Ireland consumers.

Fans cautioned to 'Be On The Ball' when abroad

Pre-tax profit hike for Viridian Group
