14-Year-Old Accused Of Trying To Kill Mother

A young teenager has appeared in court accused of trying to stab his mother to death.

The 14-year-old faces charges of attempted murder and possession of a knife with intent to commit murder.

He was charged following an alleged stabbing incident at a house in north Belfast on June 17.

The boy will stay anonymous throughout his dealings with the legal system because of his age.

At youth court in Belfast today, he spoke only to confirm he understood the allegations against him.

A detective constable said he could connect the accused to the charges.

The court was told medical reports, photographs and phone records expected to form part of the investigation are still outstanding.

No details were given of the alleged incident, or of the woman's injuries.

District Judge George Conner allowed an eight-week adjournment to allow further progress in the case.

The accused is on bail and living with his father.

It is understood to be a condition of his bail that he must have no contact with the alleged accused.
