Jobs go at Omagh factory

Up to 55 jobs are to go at a CD factory in Omagh it was announced today.

Rixell, which is a subsidiary of the Taiwanese company Ritek, said that jobs would go following its decision to relocate its printing and packaging operation to the continent. There are around 130 people currently employed at the Omagh facility.

The plant represents a £28 million investment by Ritek, one of Taiwan’s leading technology companies, and features advanced technology equipment for the manufacture of CD-R (compact disks which are recordable and rewritable) for the huge European market. Rixell was also offered Selective Financial Assistance of £3.5 million by IDB towards the costs of this investment.

Ritek, which was founded in 1988, currently employs over 4,000 people worldwide. In 2000, Ritek sold products worth around £1 billion to customers in the global market place.
