SDLP Youth Launches Jobs4OurGeneration Campaign
SDLP Youth launched their survey on youth unemployment at the Parliament Buildings, Stormont.
The survey, which is part of the group's Jobs4OurGeneration campaign, will canvass the opinions and concerns of young people across the North during the summer months about what measures could be taken to combat youth joblessness.
Speaking following the launch, SDLP Youth Chair Conor McNeill, said: "Rising youth unemployment is seriously worrying for young people across our region as our contribution to the economy is vital if we are to have a prosperous economic future.
"With figures obtained by SDLP MLA Mark H Durkan today revealing that over 20,000 young people here are on Jobseeker’s Allowance, we feel that there is no better time to launch a survey to gain feedback from young people on their experiences including; the availability of information about current DEL initiatives, the quality and suitability of the provision of careers advice in schools and the possibility of emigration.
"Having taken the views of our young people via our survey, we hope to analyse the findings and produce a document which will detail the best ways to tackle this growing problem.
"Jobs for our generation are critical for the health of our economy and government must do more to create more employment opportunities for young people."
