Anti-War protests continue across NI

As war intensifies in Iraq, protestors from across Northern Ireland have continued to take to the streets in opposition to the armed campaign in the Middle East.

Friday was named 'Day X' by the Stop the War Coalition (NI) as it organised several peace vigils across the province in tandem with international action throughout Europe and the rest of the world.

Several hundred people took to the streets in Belfast and held a sit down protest at City Hall where they were addressed by representatives of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU).

The ICTU is co-ordinating the Stop the War Coalition along with local trades councils and the support of other organisations.

A similar demonstration was held in Dublin at lunchtime on Friday.

The rally was being held in O'Connell Street and was also organised by the Congress of Trade Unions.
