18th Annual Walk For Action Cancer

The 18th annual 'wee walk' for Action Cancer will take place on Friday July 27 in Donaghadee.

Organisers hope the gentle evening walk along the shorefront to Groomsport will be a "great night of family fun" as well as raising money for the local cancer charity.

Action Cancer relies entirely on donations from the public to continue to provide digital breast screening for women aged 40-49 and 70+, men's MOT health checks, a mobile cancer resources unit, counselling, complementary therapy, health promotion and research.

Supporters are asked to meet at the children's paddling pool on the promenade at Donaghadee seafront in good time for the walk’s departure at 6.30pm.

T-Shirts, sponsorship forms and refreshments will be supplied for participants and parents are urged to bring their children along.

To get a sponsorship form in advance, call Hugh on 028 9188 9502, Noel on 028 9188 4414 or Gillian on 028 9080 3344.

Transport will be provided in Groomsport to transfer walkers back to Donaghadee.

Gillian Thomson, Fundraising Events Officer at Action Cancer said the Wee Walk's success "belongs to the whole community".

She said: "We are extremely grateful to the people of Donaghadee and would encourage anyone interested to get involved and help make a difference in your local community.”

If you would like to participate in the walk and support Action Cancer please contact or simply turn up on the night.

The charity will be happy to receive any donations.
