Fairy Tale Circus Headed For Holywood
An award-winning circus is coming to Holywood, Co Down.
As part of their European-wide tour, the Nicole et Martin circus duo will be bringing to life fairytale classics under a white tent at the Waldorf-Steiner school.
From 26 - 27 July, the school's grounds will be transformed into a circus, with a huge white marquee and all the other trimmings, such as popcorn and waffles, that go with a perfect summer's evening out.
Judith Matthews, a teacher at the Steiner school, said: "The wonder Nicole et Martin evoke using traditional circus skills will doubtless make this an evening that will be remembered from a long time to come."
This Swiss-based outfit has been going since 1999 and has performed 1767 times in 336 venues and in 8 different countries.
Wholly owned by its performers, the circus show's format is simple.
It tells the story of folk talkes by the Brothers Grimm, using sparse props that allow people to use their own imagination to fill in the spaces.
But Judith promised the duo's skills, including tightwire walking and acrobatics, are "breathtaking".
In 2002 the outfit was awarded a prize for the promotion of culture by the canton of Basel in Switzerland, and received both the Tapwater Award and the sought-after Sold-Out Award from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2006.
Judith finished: "If you are looking for a wonderful evening out, come to this performance. You will be delighted and enchanted."
Tickets are £10 adult, £6 child, £25 family, available from the Belfast Welcome Centre or from www.holywood-steiner.co.uk.
