Sandy Row Mural Painted Over To Boost Business Image

An iconic south Belfast paramilitary mural is being painted over by contractors from the Housing Executive, in a bid to improve the area’s image.

The UFF mural featuring the slogan "You Are Now Entering Loyalist Sandy Row" will be replaced by a portrait of William of Orange.

Talks with the local community have gone on for the past year, and businessmen told paramilitaries the mural was having a negative effect on businesses in nearby office complexes.

The UFF was disbanded five years ago.
