Irish Open Sold Out

Tickets for the Irish Open weekend are now sold out for the first time in the competition's history.

No tickets are left for Saturday June 30 or Sunday July 1 and the European Tour announced today that it has had to close ticket sales.

The deadline for booking tickets for the Thursday and Friday events is tomorrow (Friday 22) at 5pm.

Northern Ireland Tourist Board Chief Executive Alan Clarke said the swollen visitor numbers could be put down to NI golfers' recent international successes.

It is the first time in 59 years that the Irish Open has been held north of the border.

Volunteer Call For Portrush

A Northern Irish charity is asking for volunteers to help capitalise on the many visitors to Portrush during the Irish Open.

The NI Cancer Fund for Children will be holding a street collection in Main Street, Portrush from 10.30am to 6pm on June 28 and 29.

Organisers called for volunteers to join in for an hour or more to raise money for children and young people with cancer.

In a statement, the charity said: "Time is often the best gift we can give to anyone as human beings. This month why not give up just one hour to make a massive difference to a hard-working charity?"
