Women Dies In House Fire

A mother-of-three has died in a house fire in Magherafelt.

Jolene McCloskey was 32.

She died in a blaze at a property in Greenvale Park, which is under investigation.

The cause of the blaze is not yet known.

Life Sentences Call For Police Murderers

The Police Federation has called for 'whole life' jail terms for people who kill police officers.

Terry Spence of the union, which represents thousands of PSNI officers, said the sentences handed out to the killers of Constable Stephen Carroll "sent out the wrong message".

John Paul Wootton, who was 17 at the time of the shooting, will stay in prison for 14 years at least but his minimum tariff has been referred to the Court of Appeal after concerns it was too lenient.

Sinn Fein 'Were Aware' Of Jubilee Plans

The Secretary of State for Northern Ireland has said all political parties were aware of the plans for the Queen's visit at the end of this month.

Owen Paterson was speaking in the wake of claims by Sinn Fein politicians that they had not been informed about a Jubilee party for 10,000 people in the grounds of Parliament Buildings at Stormont.

He admitted he had not been in the meeting concerned but said "all parties have been informed of the broad outlines of the visit".

Police Officers Disciplined For Failing To Tell Doctor About Woman's Head Injuries
Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Culture Minister Injured In Parade Protest
Tensions are rising between Northern Ireland's political parties following an incident at the weekend when Sinn Féin MLA Carál Ní Chuilín was injured by a PSNI vehicle. The Culture Minister and her party colleague, Gerry Kelly, were at a nationalist residents' protest against an Orange Order parade in the city.

Irish Electorate 'Targeted' Over Paul Quinn
The parents of a man brutally murdered in a border tragedy are aiming to make an impact on the Irish Republic's electorate. Paul Quinn, from Cullyhanna, (pictured) was battered to death by a large gang of men - said to be aligned to the IRA - in October 2007, and now his grieving parents are asking the electorate to look at some specific points.
