Xilinx's 50m euro expansion opened
Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Mary Harney has officially opened the new €50 million expansion at the Xilinx site in Citywest Business Park in Dublin.
The expansion, which was announced in early 2001, is set to create over 500 high quality jobs over the next five years.
Speaking at the official opening the Tánaiste said: "I am particularly pleased that, in what is generally seen as an industry downturn, when other companies are freezing investment, and when there is a general air of uncertainty around, Xilinx has completed this major expansion to its business.
"Its also interesting to note that the top ten IT companies located in Ireland continue to hold their own, and indeed some, like Xilinx today, continue to expand and grow contrary to the perception that everything is in decline. Today is very much about confidence in Ireland's economic future."
The Tánaiste said that IDA has been working closely with client companies to move their Irish operations "up the value chain" and that Xilinx was "an excellent example of the type of multinational activity we are trying to encourage in Ireland".
