Minister Highlights Opportunities To Assist Businesses

DCAL Minister Carál Ní Chuilín today highlighted opportunities for local businesses and for targeting inequalities when Belfast hosts the 2013 World Police and Fire Games (WPFG) in August next year.

The WPFG is a biennial event which sees members of Police, Prison and the Fire and Rescue Services compete in a range of sports and a wide range of goods and services will need to be procured for the Games.

The Minister said: "The World Police and Fire Games presents a tremendous opportunity for building sustainable economic opportunities. I am keen that local small and medium enterprises are involved in the supply of goods and services to the various events and would encourage them all to avail of the tendering opportunities when they are published.

"Furthermore, I am determined to ensure that the Games target and deliver real and tangible benefits at those areas of greatest objective need, and I want the Games to effectively reach into those areas and to make a real difference to the lives of the people living there.

"This is currently a work in progress, but I would call on sectors and communities to make their voices heard now and identify opportunities for engagement both with DCAL officials and the WPFG organisers."
