McAreavey Accused 'Told Father To Forget Him'
One of the men accused of murdering a newlywed on her honeymoon told his father to "forget him", Mauritius court has claimed.
A police sergeant told the murder trial a record had been kept of Avinash Treebhoowoon's visit from his father while in custody.
He claimed Treebhoowoon said: "I have made a mistake, forget your son."
Treebhoowoon, 30, is on trial alongside Sandip Moneea, 42, for the murder of Michaela McAreavey who was found strangled in a room at the luxury Legends Hotel on the island last January.
The court also heard evidence from a room service waiter today.
He claimed to have seen Treebhoowoon inside the McAreaveys' honeymoon suite and Moneea walking towards it half an hour before the murder.
Earlier, the court decided not to recall widower John McAreavey to the witness stand to give evidence.
Defence counsel objected to his lawyers' request that he be allowed to speak again after "mixing up" some dates in his evidence on Wednesday.
Chief prosecutor Mehdi Manrakhan told the court in Port Louis: "There will be no motion to have him recalled, in view of the stand taken by the defence."
The debate centred around claims made by Mr McAreavey that defence lawyers said did not tally with electronic readings of entries to the room.
His lawyer Dick Ng Sui Wa told the court he had got dates "mixed up" and wanted to clarify them, but the judge said an official motion would be necessary to include the change as official evidence.
