Culture Minister Congratulates Irish Learners
The Northern Ireland Minister for Culture has presented certificates to Irish-language learners in a west Belfast community centre.
Carál Ní Chuilín was supporting the Líofa 2015 campaign, which encourages people to try and become fluent in the Irish language by 2015.
She visited Ionad Uíbh Eachach , an Irish language community centre, where she congratulated participants in a week-long intensive language course.
The minister, who is an Irish speaker, said: "It was my hope that the Líofa initiative would be an enjoyable experience. Having had the pleasure of attending the presentation of certificates to participants in a week long Irish learning experience I am confident that this hope has been realised. Ionad Uíbh Eachach has done a great job of supporting the Líofa initiative and the Irish language and offers help and support to all age groups and abilities. Groups like this are vital in maintaining the momentum there is around the Irish language and encouraging people to achieve their Líofa goal. I congratulate the participants in this week long course and would encourage them to continue with this journey which I too embarked upon and which I have found to be immensely rewarding and enjoyable."
To date 1935 people have signed up to the Líofa initiative.

BCC Consultation On Draft Irish Language Policy
Belfast City Council has announced a new public consultation on their new draft Irish language policy. The draft policy sets out how the council plans to promote Irish and use Irish across its services, including interpreting and translation, key documents and publications, signage at facilities, on the council website belfastcity.gov.

Irish Language Funding Scheme Announced
A funding scheme to boost programmes which encourage the development of Irish language skills in Northern Ireland has been announced. Education Minister John O’Down made the announcement during a joint visit to St John the Baptist’s Primary School in Portadown with the Culture Minister, Carál Ní Chuilín.

4,000 To Learn Irish By 2015
4,000 people have pledged to become fluent in Irish by 2015 through the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure's (DCAL) Líofa campaign. Líofa (meaning ‘fluent’ in Irish) was launched by Culture Minister Carál Ní Chuilín in September 2011 to improve fluency and the use of Irish by 2015.

Belfast Named As 2025 Host Of Oireachtas na Samhna
Belfast has been announced as the host for the oldest Irish language and arts festival on the island of Ireland, Oireachtas na Samhna. Belfast City Council has welcomed the news that its bid to host the event, which attracts up to 10,000 participants and spectators each year, had been successful.
