Belfast Hotel Closes Suddenly

A north Belfast hotel has closed suddenly, leaving 35 staff out of work.

Guests with future bookings were left out in the cold when the Landsdowne Hotel on Antrim Road closed yesterday.

James Wong, a director of the hotel’s owners the Welcome Group, blamed difficult economic circumstances for the closure.

He said: "It has been struggling and we have been pumping money into it, but we got no help. The bank wouldn’t help. We employed 35 staff, so unfortunately they have lost their jobs, but we made sure they were all paid up to date."

Mr Wong said that no other venues in the Welcome Group have been affected.
