Hotel Future for Belfast's "Tech"

A landmark Belfast building could be sold for a multi-million pound sum and converted into a hotel.

The former technical college on College Square East, known to generations of students and locals as the "Tech", is due to be sold within the next few weeks for between £4m and £5m.

The "Tech", built in 1907 as industrial Belfast boomed, is a five-storey construction of Portland limestone.

Post-school students studied there for more than 100 years until Belfast Metropolitan College moved to new premises in 2011.

Planning permission is in place for it to be converted into a hotel but it is believed this will be an expensive undertaking for the as-yet anonymous buyer.

The former College of Business Studies building in Brunswick Street, built in the 1970s, could also be sold.

It is likely to be converted into offices or demolished.
