Three Officers Injured Inside Maghaberry

Three prison officers have had to be treated in hospital after being attacked inside Maghaberry Jail in County Antrim.

It is understood that one of the injured were knocked unconscious after unrest broke out between the officers and inmates.

The incident happened when three inmates refused to go back into their cells after using phones just before 7pm on Wednesday.

The officer who was knocked out hit his head on a pillar, while another officer sustained cuts behind his ear. A female prison officer was treated for shock.

An internal investigation has been launched.

A police officer has resigned after he reduced a vulnerable man to tears with "insulting, spiteful and deliberately provocative language". The incident happened near Armagh city in March last year. The Police Ombudsman, Mrs Marie Anderson, commended three probationary police officers for raising concerns.

Three Officers Injured In Carrickfergus Attack
Three police officers have been injured in an attack in Carrickfergus, Co Antrim. The PSNI received reports of two men fighting in the Victoria Road area just after 7pm on Tuesday, 25 April. One officer sustained a broken ankle, another was punched in the face and the other officer received cuts and bruises to his face and body.

Chairman of Prison Officer’s Federation brands attackers as cowards
The Chairman of Prison Officers Federation has branded those responsible for an attack on a prison officer’s home as “cowards and scumbags”. The condemnation follows an attack on a prison officer’s home in north Belfast which resulted in the man’s wife undergoing surgery to remove shrapnel from her back.
