RIOTS FLARE AGAIN IN NORTH BELFAST
FOLLOWING a weekend of relative calm, fresh riots flared on the streets of north Belfast on Monday night.
Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) officers were summoned to the Limestone Road around 11pm where up to 400 people were involved in disturbances in a nationalist and loyalist interface area.
A woman was taken to hospital with a leg injury sustained during the disturbances.
The RUC said a number of bottles were thrown and heavy stoning was also taking place at the junction near Halidays Road.
Earlier RUC officers received reports of stoning in the west of the city involving up to 50 people.
The incident occurred along the peaceline separating nationalists on the Springfield Road and loyalists in Workman Avenue.
The RUC were also dealing with a number of paramilitary-style shootings in the city Monday evening.
In north Belfast a 40-year-old man received a gunshot wound to the left leg in an entry by Tyndale Grove and Ballysillan Road.
In Monkstown, north of the city, a 17-year-old sustained a gunshot wound to the leg at around 8pm. The victim was followed and lifted by two masked men driving a black van. They drove him from Devenish Avenue to ground adjacent to Lady Park where he was shot.
A third man, aged 35, was shot in the left leg at Hull's Lane in the County Antrim town of Lisburn at 7.30pm. (AMcE)

A mother whose sixteen-year-old son was shot dead by the Army in Northern Ireland is to take legal action against the team that investigated his death. The Historical Enquiries Team (HET) recently re-examined the murder of Gerard Gibson, who was killed in July 1972.

Baggot Faces Assembly Over Re-Hiring Process
PSNI Chief Constable Matt Baggot is preparing to face questions regarding the police service’s hiring of former RUC officers. Baggot will appear before assembly members regarding an Audit Office investigation which last week revealed that the hiring of former RUC staff was at one point "out of control".

Former RUC Man Appointed To Justice Committee
An ex-RUC man has been appointed as chair to the assembly committee for the transfer of policing and justice powers. Jimmy Spratt, a former RUC officer and now South Belfast MLA, accepted the nomination by Ian Paisley Snr to the Executive Review Committee.

North West 200: John McGuinness Suffers Suspected Broken Leg
English road racer John McGuinness has sustained a suspected broken leg in a collision at the North West 200. He crashed during the Superbike practice session on Thursday, 11 May. He has been taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital to be treated.
