MINISTER LAUNCHES ENTERPRISE NORTHERN IRELAND
ENTERPRISE Northern Ireland (ENI), the new umbrella organisation for Northern Ireland’s local enterprise agencies, was launched in Belfast on Thursday June 28.
Speaking at the event, Sir Reg Empey, Minister for Enterprise Trade and Investment, said: “A strong small business sector is essential to the prosperity of Northern Ireland and the key to it must be the development of a true entrepreneurial spirit. There are 83,000 small businesses operating in Northern Ireland but it is vital that more are created. To help those who want to be in business we must have the right mechanisms to support local business, on the ground and working.
“Government can help to ensure that the conditions are right for entrepreneurship to grow, but a thriving SME sector cannot be achieved by Government alone. For this reason the Enterprise Northern Ireland network will be key to providing a local resource and will be a strategic partner to the DETI agencies.”
Supported by LEDU and IFI, Enterprise Northern Ireland has 31 enterprise agencies under its supervision.
ENI will also encourage job creation and small business development at a local level by providing leadership and strategic direction for the enterprise agency network and acting as a focal point for a more co-ordinated approach to the needs of the small business sector.
