NEW HOTEL BOOSTS NORTH COAST TOURISM
THE Chairman of the Northern Ireland Tourist Board Roy Bailie has officially opened the Comfort Hotel in Portrush.
The new 50-bedroom hotel complex, on the site of the former Northern Counties Hotel, is viewed as a significant step towards modern tourism provision in the area and is strategically in line with the Northern Ireland Tourist Board's Tourism Strategy Development Plan.
Mr Bailie said: "With tourism figures in the ascendant, the Comfort hotel development is exactly the kind of focused investment which will attract and retain international visitors to the North West area. Sustainable tourism requires a forward thinking approach, providing visitors with modern, reliable facilities. The Northern Ireland Tourist Board are delighted to have provided grant assistance to the Comfort Hotel, Portrush."
The arrival of the international brand - coupled with the investment of £3m by the Coleraine based Kennedy Group and the prospects of a further £4m investment (in partnership with Morrison Homes) in 35 new apartments adjacent to the new hotel, bar and brasserie will enhance the regeneration of the town - creating a cosmopolitan magnet for both domestic and international visitors.
The new Comfort Hotel has fully serviced conference facilities for delegations of up to 60 people. Rooms are specifically designed to cater to the business travellers needs, as well as the leisure visitor, with telephone and Internet access from every room, trouser press, hospitality tray, and private car parking.
