New Lead In Tang Murder Investigation
A 31-year-old woman has been arrested by Police in connection with the murder of business man Simon Tang 16 years ago.
Twenty-eight-year-old Simon Tang, was beaten and robbed as he left his takeaway business on 24 June 1996. He was taken to hospital but died the following day, leaving a wife and two sons.
It was originally believed the attack was carried out by two youths who stole the night's takings and Mr Tang's watch.
Since an appeal for information on BBC programme Crime Watch, aired on March 20, a 53-year-old woman was arrested but later released. This new arrest marks the second arrest since the fresh appeal.
PSNI Detective Inspector Peter Montgomery, who led the Crimewatch appeal, said: "I am satisfied that I am dealing with a racially motivated murder."
He also said new lines of inquiry had been identified.
DI Montgomery said he hoped the Crimewatch programme would "jog people's memories to come forward with new information to help me catch the racist killers of Simon Tang".
No one has been charged with the murder.
