BOOKLET CELEBRATES NI'S INDUSTRIAL HERITAGE
NORTHERN Ireland’s Industrial Heritage was celebrated at the launch of the National Trust’s latest education resource booklet ‘Our Industrial Heritage’.
The resource book for teachers highlights three historic listed properties in Northern Ireland: Gray’s Printing Press, Strabane, Wellbrook Beetling Mill, Cookstown and Patterson’s Spade Mill, Templepatrick.
In launching the booklet in the Dunadry Inn, Templepatrick on Friday June 29, Mr Stephen Quinn, Permanent Secretary of the Department of the Environment (DOE) said: “I am delighted that the DOE has played its part in ensuring that the three important buildings featured in the booklet are preserved for the benefit of present and future generations. All three are listed buildings, and we have been pleased to offer conservation advice and provide listed building grant-aid for their conservation.
“I feel sure that many teachers and many young people will utilise this resource book and visit these sites to gain a greater understanding of some of Northern Ireland’s rich Industrial Heritage.”
National Trust Northern Ireland (NTNI) officials Patrick Casement (Chairman of NTNI) and Ruth Laird (Director of NTNI) gave Mr Quinn a tour of Patterson’s Spade Mill. BT NI CEO Hanif Lalani and the Head of the European Commission Representative NI Office Jim Dougal also attended the event.
