Two Found Guilty Of Policeman's Murder

Two men have been found guilty of murdering Constable Stephen Carroll in March 2009.

Brendan McConville, 40, from Craigavon and John Paul Wooten, 20, from Lurgan, who both denied any involvement in the killing, were jailed for life at Belfast Magistrates court today.

The Continuity IRA claimed responsibility for the killing at the time.

The officer was the first policeman killed by republican terrorists since the peace process reforms.

Some of his relatives wept as the judge passed sentence, which took more than two hours to deliver.

Outside the courtroom Con Carroll's widow Kate hugged her husband's police colleagues.

Wooten was also found guilty of attempting to obtain information likely to be of use to terrorists.
