Call For Game Employees To Get Better Treatment From Employers
The Sinn Féin spokesperson on workers’ rights Senator David Cullinane has criticised the video-game retailer Game for their failure to give their Irish workers an adequate notice period.
123 workers in Irish stores were informed yesterday that they were to be laid off as part of the restructuring of the company and the closure of the retailer's Irish stores.
Senator Cullinane called on the company to pay the workers their redundancy entitlements in full.
Senator Cullinane said: "Game should be ashamed of themselves for the manner in which they have treated their workers. The workers were informed by phone yesterday morning that they were to be made redundant, that they would not be getting any notice period and that their contracts are to cease on Friday or Saturday.
"The very least a company owes its workers is to inform them properly and professionally that they are to be laid off, and to allow them to work out their notice.
"It is clear that the company has the means to pay these workers their redundancy entitlements. It will continue to trade in some 333 stores in Britain. They should stop hiding behind the administrator and pay the workers their entitlements in full."
Senator Cullinane also highlighted the need for the Government to introduce legislation to reform Redundancy Law.

Vita Cortex Workers Protest At Co-Owners Home
Vita Cortex workers brought the campaign to secure their agreed redundancy payments to the home of company shareholder Sean McHenry in Douglas, Cork, on Tuesday. Six of the 32 Vita Cortex workers, who are in the sixth week of their sit-in at the former foam manufacturing plant on Kinsale Road in Cork, distributed leaflets outside the McHenry home.

Strike Notice Served On 4Home Stores
A trade union has served notice of industrial action on 4Home Superstores after talks with employers collapsed. Mandate said the 24 workers involved in the dispute will now picket the company's stores in Co Cork after management revealed they were to lose their jobs.
