Search Resumes For Arlene Arkinson

Detectives investigating the murder of teenager Arlene Arkinson who disappeared in 1994 have resumed a series of searches in rural locations in County Tyrone.

Following on from searches last year, the resumed operation has the twin objectives of recovering the schoolgirl's remains and progressing the investigation.

A team of officers using specialist PSNI search dogs are conducting searches at a number of locations.

The sites to be covered in this phase of the search strategy have links to the overall investigation into Arlene’s disappearance and murder. Searches will continue to be conducted on a planned roll-out, depending on weather conditions, availability of resources and operational commitments.

15 year old Arlene disappeared after a night out in Bundoran in the early hours of 14 August 1994. In 2005 a 61 year old man stood trial for Arlene’s murder but was acquitted.

Detectives from Serious Crime Branch have been in contact with Arlene's family to provide them with a general update on the overall situation.

Man Arrested In Connection With Newry Shooting
A 27-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a shooting at an industrial estate in Newry. The incident happened at Carnbane Industrial Estate, off Tandragee Road, on Tuesday morning. The suspect was arrested following search operations in Newry on Thursday. He is being held on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a firearm.

Arlene Arkinson Detectives Search Flat In Castlederg
A flat in Castlederg has been searched by detectives investigating the murder of missing teenager Arlene Arkinson. It's understood the flat, on Main Street, is the former home of child killer Robert Howard who was acquitted of her murder in 2005. Police have said it is a detailed forensic examination, not a search for human remains.

Appeal Over 'Mystery Women' In Arlene Arkinson Murder Case
Police have made an appeal regarding two "mystery women" as part of investigations into the murder of Tyrone teenager Arlene Arkinson twenty years ago. 15-year-old Arlene was last seen in the early hours of 14 August 1994. She disappeared after a night out in Bundoran, County Donegal.

New Arlene Arkinson Search Ends
A new search operation launched by police investigating the disappearance of Arlene Arkinson has ended with "nothing suspicious" found. Police had cordoned off an area near Killen, outside Castlederg, last Thursday. The area is close to where Arlene was last seen alive with convicted child killer and rapist Robert Howard.
