Fury Over Nolan's Wages

BBC Northern Ireland is planning to pay Stephen Nolan £5,000 a programme to present his new television show.

According to a report by the Belfast Telegraph the presenter will be paid a staggering £55,000 overall for the series.

It is understood that Nolan's fee is over two times the total put aside for potential guests on the show and the rate is also £4,000 more than he gets paid for presenting The Nolan Show.

It is thought these latest revelations will heighten the ongoing row over the non-disclosure of local BBC presenters’ salaries, and in particular that of Nolan, widely believed to be the highest-paid broadcast journalist in the province by a large margin.

It also follows a row between Nolan and east Londonderry MP Gregory Campbell who challenged Nolan on-air about his salary.

Mr Campbell has now demanded an explanation from BBC NI as to how it can justify paying a local presenter £5,000 a show in the light of the corporation’s monetary cuts.
