US President Could Visit NI

US President Barack Obama could be coming to Northern Ireland — if re-elected in November, First Minister Peter Robinson has said.

"He was given an invitation to come to Northern Ireland — and I'd be pretty sure that, if he's successful in November, we'll get him in the next term," Mr Robinson said.

This comes after Mr Robinson and the Deputy First Minister, Martin McGuinness complete a week long St Patrick's Day trip in which they visited Canada and the US to promote Northern Ireland.

The two Northern Ireland leaders are working to boost tourism for Northern Ireland prior to a series of events which are attracting international interest.

In America and Canada, they publicly launched the opening of Titanic Belfast and the Irish Open golf championship in Portrush.

They will also looked ahead to 2013, when Londonderry will be the UK City of Culture.

Mr Robinson said that, during their meeting, President Obama displayed a high level of knowledge about Northern Ireland and seem keen for a visit if re-elected.
