NI BUSINESS SUPERAGENCY CONTINUES ON TRACK

MINISTER for Enterprise, Trade and Investment, Sir Reg Empey has heralded the creation of Invest Northern Ireland (INI), the new economic development superagency.

The Minister was speaking to the Assembly on Tuesday evening during the second reading of a Bill which will result in the creation of the new agency

However, he said that its creation was simply not a case of change for changes sake.

He added: “We are not simply doing this for the sake of doing it.

“We want to ensure that a fresh new look is brought to a different economy that currently exists than that which existed 30 years ago when some of these organisations were founded.”

The INI agency, which will integrate the work currently undertaken by the Industrial Development Boad (IDB), LEDU, the Industrial Research and Technology Unit (IRTU) and elements of the Northern Ireland Tourist Board (NITB) and the Training and Employment Agency (T&EA), is likely to begin work early next year.
