Escaped Prisoner Arrested In Derry
A man who escaped from a prison in the Republic of Ireland has been arrested in Londonderry.
Martin McDermott, 26, from Raphoe in County Donegal, was sentenced last July for seven years for the manslaughter of Garda Gary McLoughlin in 2009.
He was reported missing from the 'open' low-security prison,Loughan House in County Cavan, following a head count yesterday evening.
It is understood that Mr McDermott, who has 91 previous convictions, may have simply walked out of the jail.
Mr McDermott, who has served eight months of this seven year sentence, was arrested by the PSNI around 11am this morning.
Police on both sides of the border as well as security at ports and airports had been alerted following Mr McDermott's escape.
The Republic's Justice Department has confirmed that it will be seeking a full report into the incident.

Pensioners Flee Bangor Arson Attack
Police in North Down are appealing for information following a suspicious fire at a community hall in the Skipperstone Road area of Bangor on Thursday. At around 9.00pm, petrol was poured over the door of the centre and set alight. A number of pensioners were in the community centre at the time.

'Other Abusers' Sought As Brothers Volunteer For Psychiatric Treatment
The police are to carry out further investigations of child sex abuse in the border village of Donagh. It has transpired that a victim of Fermanagh brothers James and Owen Roe McDermott, has alleged other people took part in the abuse and he said the pair were alleged to have passed information about their victims to other paedophiles.

A 26-year-old man who was found guilty of the manslaughter of a policeman in County Donegal has been jailed for a further four months for offences following his escape from prison last week. Martin McDermott, admitted three charges of assaulting police officers, one charge of resisting arrest and causing criminal damage to a set of handcuffs.

Man dies in Magherafelt road collision
A man has died following a road traffic collision in Co Londonderry on Thursday. The accident, which occurred on the Castledawson Road in Magherafelt shortly before 6pm, involved a collision between a Peugeot car and a lorry. The deceased, who has not yet been named, was driving the Peugeot while the driver of the lorry escaped serious injury.

Home evacuated after possible racial attack
A number of people have had to evacuate their homes after a suspected pipe bomb was discovered outside a house in south Belfast this morning. Police believe the device, which was found outside the house in Coolfin Street shortly after 7.30am, is linked to racial attacks in the area. The device was later discovered to be a firework.
