Attwood Slams Illegal Drinking
A 'crack-down' on companies offering so called 'party bus packages' is to be expected, following a statement for NI's Environment Minister.
Minister Alex Attwood has said that some operators allow young people to consume alcohol on the way to nightclubs and other venues - which is illegal and carries a maximum fine of £1,000.
Mr Atwood has said that too few convictions have been made despite the growing problem.
Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph he said: " illegal drinking must be stopped."
"There is some evidence that there are nightclubs or coach operators or other organisations putting together a package — and by that I mean the bus, access to a venue and drink provided — and that’s a real concern."
Minister Attwood and Health Minister Edwin Poots have been focused on the amount of cheap promotions and illegal drinking in the country for some time. This concern however was further heightened last month when a teenager from Glengormley drowned after falling into the River Lagan following a night out in a Belfast nightclub were he was drinking £1 shots.
