NI Watches 32 Hours Of TV A Week
One third of people in Northern Ireland watch television for a combined 32 hours per week, a new report has claimed.
The report for Telescope 2012 revealed that 31% of adults also enjoy posting and monitoring comments on social media sites while watching TV.
It is suggested by the research that the trend of commenting via a second screen about a programme, or ‘chatterboxing’, is starting to grip the nation.
One third of adults (31%) in Northern Ireland have expressed their opinions on Twitter and other social media sites. The UK average is 26%. More than half (54%) were aged under 35.
TeleScope claim that the new trend influences viewing choices and 46% of young adults preferred to watch a live scheduled programme because they enjoyed following the online comments by other viewers.
A spokesperson for TV Licensing said: "This report points to the fact that people are taking advantage of new technologies to ensure they can enjoy TV in more ways than ever before."

Belfast To Get New TV Channel
Belfast is to be switched on to a new TV channel soon as it has been chosen by the Government for a new station. Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt yesterday revealed the 20 towns and cities across the UK, which are expected to be the first to have their own local TV stations.

Pensioners urge to pick up new benefit
Pensioners in Northern Ireland are being urged to claim the new pension credit which is set to be introduced next month. Pension Credit, which will be introduced on 6 October and replaces the Minimum Income Guarantee, ensures that single pensioners aged 60 and over will be guaranteed an income of at least £102.

New TV Awareness Campaign Of Non-Fatal Strangulation Law
The Department of Justice has announced the launch of a new TV campaign to raise awareness of the crime of non-fatal strangulation. The new campaign, will warn that non-fatal strangulation is a crime 'whatever the excuse' and carries a maximum prison sentence of 14 years.
