100 NI Postal Workers Attacked By Dogs

Dogs attack nearly 100 postmen and women each year in Northern Ireland; this is according to The Royal Mail.

The postal service claim that a total of 24,143 Royal Mail postal staff have been attacked while delivering mail since 2006, with 570 of these cases in Northern Ireland.

This news comes as Royal Mail reveal plans to schedule an independent inquiry into dog attacks across the UK. The inquiry will look at the prevalence of the attacks and the consequences they have, as well as make recommendations on how to go forward.

Chairman of Royal Mail Group Donald Brydon said: "It is an offence to decency that good people should suffer these attacks when carrying out their daily jobs and serving the public."

The inquiry is to be chaired by former High Court judge Sir Gordon Langley with a report expected later this year.
