FOYLE CYCLE PATH HIGHLIGHTS CROSS BORDER TOURISM
ECONOMY Minister Sir Reg Empey, and Dr James McDaid, Minister for Tourism in the Republic of Ireland, were in the North West on Friday, July 6, at the official opening of the newest link in Northern Ireland’s cycling network – the Foyle Valley Cycle Path.
Sir Reg said: “The new Foyle Cycling network is an excellent example of co-operation in cross-border tourism in action.
“The new cycle path demonstrates the possibilities for tourism on several levels. The scheme has regenerated a derelict site and is an environmentally sound project. It has also promoted new partnerships, including cross border co-operation. In addition it will help boost the local economy and, last but not least, its use will keep both local cyclists and international visitors physically fit.”
The path follows the course of the Old Great Northern Railway for 35 kilometres from Derry to Strabane, along the western banks of the River Foyle, and will be an important route for the promotion of the entire island to cycling tourists.

Cycle Racks Wheeled Into Belfast
Fifty new cycle racks are being installed throughout Belfast city centre as part of the £28million Belfast Streets Ahead project. NI Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie helped launch the new cycle racks, along with sustainable transport charity Sustrans and DRD Roads Service.

DRD Announce New Causeway Walk And Cycle Path
A new walkway and cycle path is to be built at the Giant's Causeway, it has been announced. The proposed foot and bike route will be over two miles long and run from the Causeway to the Aird. The Department for Regional Development said discussions are already under way with the National Trust and other landowners.
