Pensioner Dies In Armagh House Fire

A pensioner has died after a fire broke out at her Armagh home last night- she is the third elderly person to die as result of a house fire in the last week.

The blaze broke out in the property in Linseys Hill shortly after 7.30am this morning. The 78-year-old woman was the only person in the house at the time.

Police carrying out an investigation into the fire, at this stage, do not believe that the circumstances surrounding the incident are suspicious.

This incident follows two other elderly people dying as result of house fires.

Last Tuesday, 78-year-old Sadie Ferguson died in a house fire in Dromara, Co Down.

Meanwhile, in Co Antrim, 64-year-old Albert Kane died after his home caught fire at Bush Road, near Dervock later that night.

Dale Ashford, Assistant Chief Fire Officer, described the deaths as "an unprecedented tragedy."
