Man Injured In Gun Attack
A 35-year-old man has been shot in the leg in north Belfast. The shooting happened in Jamaica Street, in the Ardoyne area, just before 20:00 GMT on Monday. The victim has been taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital, but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
'Mystery Man' Buys Titanic Letter
A mystery benefactor has stepped in to ensure a valuable letter written by an officer days before he died on the Titanic will return to his home town. There were fears that the note Dr John Simpson penned to his mother on board the doomed liner would be snapped up by a private collector and lost from public view forever when it was put up for auction in New York with a 34,000 US dollar reserve price. However after hearing about a campaign by relatives of the ship's assistant surgeon to bring the letter back to his native Belfast where the Titanic was built, a donor, who does not want to be named at this stage, has bought it for the city just weeks before the 100th anniversary of the tragedy.
New Law To Tackle High Hedge Disputes
Environment Minister Alex Attwood said that new legislation designed to resolve disputes over high hedges, will become law on 31 March.The Northern Ireland High Hedges Act is designed to help people who are adversely affected by high hedges bordering their domestic property. The Act deals specifically with evergreen and semi-evergreen hedges that are more than 2-metres in height acting as a barrier to light to a neighbouring domestic property. Commenting on the legislation, the Minister said: "This is an important piece of legislation which I hope will go a long way towards reducing the number of disputes over high hedges.

Multi-Million Pound Deal Welcomed At Thales
Despite a gloomy outlook on the economy nationally - with a UK recession officially confirmed today - there's good news for a specialist engineering company in east Belfast. Thales Air Defence, formerly Shorts Missile Systems, has won a £200m Ministry of Defence contract and will supply part of the Starstreak missile system to the MoD until 2020.

Cocaine found in Derry hedge
Cocaine with a street value of over £100,000 has been found in a hedgerow in County Derry. The discovery of the Class A drugs at Shanreagh Park in Limavady was the latest in the war against rising supply of cocaine in Northern Ireland, police have said. No arrests have been made during the operation which took place on Monday.

Protestant High School vandalised in north Belfast
A predominantly Protestant High School in north Belfast has been vandalised causing £10,000 worth of damage. Around 200 windows were broken at Castle High School in Fortwilliam Park at around 6pm on Thursday evening.

Five Arrested Over Journalist's Murder
Police investigating the murder of journalist Martin O'Hagan have arrested five people in counties Down and Armagh. The Sunday World reporter was gunned down by loyalist paramilitaries in 2001. The Lurgan man, 51, was walking home from a night out with his wife when the attack happened.
