Portstewart and Portrush Get Facelift

Over £400,000 worth of funding has been made available to help tackle the growing amount of derelict buildings in Portstewart and Portrush.

The Department of the Environment has revealed that they will dedicate £405,000 pounds to the area to demolish buildings as well as repair, secure and landscape a number of other properties in the area.

It is understood that the Metropole Hotel in Portrush is one of buildings marked to be demolished as part of the facelift while an urban park is set to be created at Dunluce Avenue and Kerr Street.

Mayor of Coleraine, Alderman Maurice Bradley, welcomed the funding boost.

"For over two years the council has been negotiating with administrators and property owners in the borough to make changes to minimise the unattractive appearance of dilapidated properties," he said.

Work is set to begin this week.
