Man Given Life For Wife's Murder
A man who stabbed his wife to death last year has been jailed for life after pleading guilty to the murder today.
Fifty-two-year-old Gerard O’Kane admitted to murdering his estranged wife Ann Marie O’Kane in May last year.
Mrs O’Kane’s body was found with multiple stab wounds at a flat in Northview just off the Antrim road in Belfast.
Mr O’Kane, from Hollybrook Avenue in Newtownabbey had been remanded in custody until the end of April.
The Judge presiding over the trial told Belfast Crown Court today that only one sentence could be handed down for the crime and that was life imprisonment.

Man Arrested Over Larne Incidents
A man has been arrested in connection with a number of incidents in Larne. The 23-year-old suspect has been detained on suspicion of attempted murder, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, hijacking and aggravated vehicle taking. A car was hijacked and shots fired at a property in Co Antrim on Monday, 11 September.

A married couple have been remanded in custody charged with the murder of a man in Belfast last week. Charles Stephen Valliday, 40, and Julie-Ann Valliday, 35, of Powerscourt Place, Belfast, are accused of killing Christopher Mackin last Thursday. The 31-year-old victim was shot four times at College Square North in the city.

A 48-year-old man who stabbed his wife through the heart has been jailed for five years. Belfast Crown Court today heard how Desmond Hugh Peter McAteer was high on a cocktail of drink and drugs when he stabbed his wife at their home in the Norglen Parade last March.
