E-SOLUTIONS FIRM WINS CONTRACT TO NETWORK 300 SCHOOLS

ESAT Kedington, Northern Ireland’s largest supplier of network solutions and structured cabling, has been selected to supply a network infrastructure to around 300 schools in the Southern Education and Library Board area as part of the government’s long awaited Classroom 2000 project.

The Classroom 2000 strategy aims to provide an integrated educational technology infrastructure, both for administrative and teaching purposes, through supply and installation of the most up to date hardware, software, networking (within schools, and to external networks), management and technical services.

Managing Director of Esat Kedington Gary Cobain said: “The award of this contract helps to maintain our position as the largest network service provider in Northern Ireland. We will be expanding our existing workforce to ensure the level of service to our current customers is maintained.”

The infrastructure element of the Classroom 2000 Project will deploy Internet-ready computers running Windows 2000 Professional operating system to all of Northern Ireland's schools. The Department's goal is to deploy upwards of 40,000 computers to its 350,000 students and 20,000 teachers spread throughout Northern Ireland.

Number Of NI Primary Schools Receive Further 'Malicious Calls'
A number of primary schools in Northern Ireland have received further "malicious calls". Pupils and staff at Kilmaine Primary school in Bangor, Co Down, were evacuated and other schools have also been affected.

New schools project launched in Belfast
A new schools project, which aims to "showcase the creativity, innovation and talent of young people throughout Northern Ireland", was launched in Belfast today. The Adream Project for Schools is an internationally scalable gateway to a sophisticated Schools’ Directory which will initially offer every school in Northern Ireland a Mini-web presence.

New Defence Heritage Record Launched
Communities Minister Gordon Lyons has welcomed the launch of a new Defence Heritage Record, a comprehensive resource detailing over 4,500 sites constructed across Northern Ireland in response to World War One and Two, as well as the Cold War.
