Security Breach Sees Belfast Councillors Details Released
A breach of data protection has resulted in the personal details of Belfast city councillors being handed over to a member of the public.
According to a report in The Irish News details including bank details, car registration numbers, passport numbers, national insurance numbers, addresses and dates of birth of councillors serving in the Belfast city area have been leaked to the public.
It is understood that the council will investigate and have said they are deeply concerned about the breach.
The Irish Times Newspaper said the breach came to light when they received a file on each of Belfast’s city councillors.
It is believed that the information was mistakenly sent via email to a woman in England who had requested contact details for elected representatives.
