Culture Minister, Carál Ní Chuilín has attended the first ever performance given collaboratively by the Ulster Orchestra and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra.

The concert is part of the BBC’s Music Nation countdown event to the London 2012 Festival.

Speaking at the Waterfront Hall, the Minister said: "It’s a pleasure to attend this unique occasion and to have an opportunity to hear local composer Brian Irvine’s composition ‘Praise Aloud the Trees’ performed by the Ulster Orchestra and the RTE Concert Orchestra.

"Bringing the leading orchestras from the north and south together to play at the magnificent Waterfront Hall is a fantastic treat for local audiences.

"This is just one in a series of events in the London 2012 programme aimed at showcasing some of the very best of local talent in what is such an important year for the north of Ireland."
