Elliott Urges 'Guilt Ridden' Republicans To Confess Their Crimes
Ulster Unionist Party Leader Tom Elliott has urged any republican terrorists who are "racked with guilt" about their past crimes to present themselves to the Smithwick Tribunal if they do not wish to go to a Police station.
Mr Elliott said: "I fully support the call by my Party colleague Mike Nesbitt that any former republican terrorists in south Armagh who are racked with guilt about their former deeds, should present themselves at the nearest police station.
"I have a further suggestion. These guilt ridden terrorists may have noticed that the Smithwick Tribunal is currently sitting in Dublin and investigating allegations of collusion between the IRA and rogue elements of the Garda. The Tribunal is focussing on the 1989 murders of Chief Superintendent Harry Breen and Superintendent Bob Buchanan in south Armagh at the hands of the IRA.
"The murderers of Chief Superintendent Harry Breen and Superintendent Bob Buchanan came from south Armagh and continued to live there following the murders. This was also the case with those who engaged in the brutal sectarian murder of ten Protestant workmen at Kingsmills in 1976. These are simply two of the most high profile cases in that area as republicans spent decades engaging in brutal acts of violence against their fellow human beings."
The UUP is urging the perpetrators to make their way to the Smithwick Tribunal and admit to the crimes they committed.
