Tánaiste announces 150 jobs for Dundalk
TANAISTE Mary Harney has announced that 150 jobs are to be created in Dundalk, following the decision of Irish Life (Retail) to establish a new Customer Services facility in the town.
The new facility will be based in Finnabair Business Park just outside Dundalk on the main Dublin - Belfast Road.
Making the announcement, the Tanaiste said: "This is a very welcome development which has been facilitated and actively encouraged by Enterprise Ireland since February of last year. It follows Bank of Ireland’s decision last year to set up a customer care centre in Kilkenny and more recently the opening of a new facility by Parthus in Limerick.
"Following the Guinness closure announcement in Dundalk I stressed the urgent need to encourage new employment for the area and today's announcement will I hope, lead to further positive development in the future.”
Denis Casey, Chief Executive of Irish Life (Retail) added that one of the main reasons they selected Dundalk was the “high quality pool of available labour” and the relative proximity of the site to the company’s Dublin head office.
He added: “Our business has experienced very rapid growth in recent years and we have ambitious plans for the future. So it’s vital that we are able to ensure a stable supply of skilled labour to help us achieve our goals. Excellence in customer support services is critical to our business goals and this facility will play a key part in providing the customer services support network for the retail operation.”
The new facility is expected to be in operation by early 2002. Recruitment for the new positions will commence in the coming weeks. (CL)
