MOTORCYCLE RECOVERED IN ANTRIM MURDER CASE

FOLLOWING an appeal for further information surrounding the murder of Antrim teenager Ciaran Cummings, police have recovered a motorcycle which they believe may have been used in the shooting.

The motorcycle was discovered north of Antrim, at Carnearney Lane in the Tardree Forest area. The find comes after police revisited the crime scene, where they appealed for witnesses to come forward, as at the time of the murder the area was busy with commuter traffic.

The Catholic teenager was gunned down on Wednesday 4 July, as he waited at Greystone roundabout for a lift to work. At around 7:15am Mr Cummings was approached by two men on a black motorcycle who fired several shots at the teenager, who was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have also said they would like to hear from the occupants of a blue Vauxhall Corsa car which is known to have been in the area of the Greystone Road roundabout at the time of the shooting.

Initial suspicions that the murder was paramilitary in nature have been confirmed, following the claim by dissident loyalist group, the Red Hand Defenders, that they carried out the killing. (CL)
