Man Killed On Rail Line

A man, believed to be in his 50s, has died at a railway line in Co Antrim. The incident happened at a crossing north of Ballymoney on Thursday. Emergency services were called to the scene at the Balnamore Road at around 9pm. A police spokesman said: "We are investigating a sudden death but we are not treating it as suspicious."

Two Arrested In Drug Raids

Two men have been arrested after police carried out a number of searches for drugs in Limavady on Friday morning. The raids took place in the Coolessan and Sperrin areas of the town in a bid to disrupt the sale and supply of illegal drugs. A man in his 20s was arrested as a result of the searches and a quantity of Class B drugs seized. A second man - who was also detained in connection with the operation - was arrested for theft offences. The PSNI have called on the public to contact them if they have any information in relation to drug dealing or criminality in their area.

Man Facing Rape Charges Barred From NI

A man charged with raping a 15-year-old girl in the grounds of a school in Derry must keep out of Northern Ireland, a High Court judge has ruled.The prohibition was imposed on Adam Titheridge by Mr Justice McLaughlin as he was granted bail to live at an address in Kent. Titheridge (20) is accused of carrying out a drink and drugs-fuelled sex attack on the girl before rummaging through her bag and then fleeing. He denies charges of rape and aggravated assault over the incident in July last year.

Renewable Energy Offers Many Opportunities

Agriculture Minister Michelle O’Neill has said that renewable energy technologies offer those in the land-based rural sectors with opportunities to reduce energy costs. The Minister was speaking after she attended the Practical On-farm Renewable Energy event at College of Food, Agriculture and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE), Enniskillen Campus. The Minister said: "Renewable energy technologies provide those working in land-based rural sectors with a multitude of opportunities to increase energy self sufficiency and supplement income with energy sales. I want to urge these sectors to seize the opportunities that renewable energy can offer now and to fully examine how it could improve their competitiveness.

A new association is being formed today aimed at expanding the use of renewable energy sources, such as wind power. The Northern Ireland Renewable Industry Group (NIRIG), which represents the collective voices of Irish Wind Energy Association (IWEA) and RenewableUK in Northern Ireland, was officially launched on Thursday.

Wind Is 'Foundation' Of Renewable Sector
Wind energy could form the bedrock for achieving Northern Ireland's renewable energy targets, the Environment Minister has said. Speaker at the Irish Wind Energy Association Workshop in Belfast, Edwin Poots reaffirmed his support for the wind industry and all other renewable energy technologies.

Potential For 'Green' Jobs, Says De Brun
The green economy should be at the heart of government programmes, according to Sinn Féin's Bairbre de Brún, who said energy efficiency schemes could create much-needed jobs for the ailing construction sector.
