Police Officers Injured During Carjacking Chase

Three police officers have been injured when the car they were travelling in collided with a vehicle that had been stolen only minutes earlier.

A blue Vauxhall Corsa was taken during a hijacking at in South Belfast shortly after 11pm last night. A female driver was forced from her car on the Windsor Road by a man armed with a knife. Following this a police chase ensued.

Police chased the carjacker and the vehicles collided in Earlscourt Street in the west of the city 12 minutes later.

A 28-year-old man was arrested by officers at the scene and is now being questioned about the carjacking.

Police said the woman was not injured but suffered from shock after her ordeal.

This incident happened on the same day the PSNI launched a telephone hotline to help deal with the recent spate of carjackings in the Greater Belfast area.

The inquiry line will be manned 24-hours a day, seven days a week and police hope members of the public will use the number to pass on any information they have.
